Hermosa Beach Open
I’m looking forward to the upcoming volleyball tournament in Hermosa Beach called the Hermosa Beach Open. The tournament will be going on for four day, July 26-29. I tried to get out there on Thursday, since play begins at 8am. However I had last minute meetings that came up. All of the other days the schedule is 9am-6pm. The stadium is constructed just North of the Hermosa Beach pier. It’s pretty cool how they set up a stadium within a couple of days.
The AVP tour goes all over the country. I think it’s a good way to promote volleyball. What else can be better than a day at the beach, while watching a sporting event? You can see their schedule, check out who’s playing, standing and much more. They will be in Manhattan Beach August 16-19. Be sure to mark your calendar.
General admission is free, but I’d try to get there early. In years past I’ve shown up without a place to sit so it can be a bummer. If you’re really interested they do sell premium tickets along the court and in VIP areas. Go to their website to get some more info. I’ve been there for the finals on Sunday and it gets crowded so try to get there early. If you have the chance check it out on either Friday or Saturday when the foot traffic is less. It feels like a small town gathering instead of a nationally televised professional event.
I was looking through their website and it seems like dogs are not allowed. I’m not sure how strict they will be in enforcing this rule so you should watch out for this if you are heading there with a pet. The main match will be televised on NBC July 26th 9pm-10:3pm.
